Wal-mart worker trampled to death by bargain-hunting shoppers
Saturday, 29 November 2008
New York police are reviewing video from surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify shoppers who trampled to death a Wal-Mart worker after they ripped off doors and burst into the store in pursuit of reduced items.
Police say the shoppers physically broke down the doors, to get inside the store yesterday at around 5am yesterday.
Jdimytai Damour, 34, of Queens died during a stampede of around 2,000 shoppers at the store in Valley Stream, Long Island.
Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue him.
The customers stepped over the dead man and became angry when told the store would be closing because of his death.
Police say a pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation.
Wal-Mart said the incident was 'unfortunate'.
Vice president for the Northeast, said in a statement. "Despite all of
our precautions, this unfortunate event occurred.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families."
In another incident two people were shot dead inside a Toys "R" Us in California. Shoppers at the store in Palm Desert ran for cover as two men shot and killed each other.
Shoppers around the United States line up early outside stores in the annual bargain-hunting day known as Black Friday.
It is known as this as it is usually a time when stores break into profitability for the year.

How dare we blame this on Walmart not having enough security. We should blame this on people that have no consideration for human life. We have raised animals. People with no character, no shame when it come to such horrible behavior what selfishness runs through our world today. What has happened to America. What a bunch of animals!!!!!!

Its a wonder how material objects can rule over the natural instinct to step on other people. I mean, how can you NOT notice a man on the ground and a pregnant woman being trampled... The holidays are about celebrating time with family and the birth of Christ our savior or Hanukkah. My prayers go out to the families of both the WalMart employee and to the woman and her unborn baby and her family.

I wonder how this individual's family will perceive the holiday season and the true meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure this one out, does it?

I think it is insane and tragic that we are a culture so caught up in our addiction for objects and things that we don't notice a human being when they stand right in front of us. The holiday season is not about things. I feel sad for the man who was killed, his family and the other co-workers who were injured. I believe there is a lesson here for our entire country. This situation is truly sickening.

I hope the Nassau PD prosecutes the shoppers who broke down the door for manslaughter and depraved indifference. HANG 'EM HIGH and make an example of these people while the world is watching.
This is "banality of evil" in its purest form. Of course, none of them have come forward, since they were just shopping, right? And they were out there in the cold! They were uncomfortable!
Wal-Mart should also be prosecuted for negligence, but there's no excuse for breaking down a door so you can get a good deal on a TV.

Walmart should be held responsible. I think it's disgusting that they let people check out after that. If it was my store, I would have told everyone to get the heck out, that they didn't deserve anything. Their savages and every Christmas they will be reminded of what they did, that buying a 32" plasma t.v. for $400 was worth ripping a man away from his family. Ridiculous!

These kinds of things make me ashamed to live in NYC.

Don't blame this on religion people. IF people would go back and remember what Thanksgiving and Christmas is truely about and start celebrating the true aspects of them. Like actually giving thanks to God for our country and our freedom and Celebrating the precious gift God gave us through His Son and our Saviour Jesus Christ and practice what THE TRUE MEANING of giving thanks, of peace and goodwill toward men and the gift of giving (not recieving). FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PEOPLE put the blame where the blame is really due and quit practicing the selfish acts of GREED and COMMERCIALISM which are the true reason for these senseless acts. Get a grip America and go back to the basics again and become once again what we truely were as American's not what we have become. PUT GOD Back in our lives and in what we stand for and see if we don't become the great American we use to be and once again be the land of THE HAPPY and THE FREE.

I hope they can't sleep at night and remember everyday that they killed someone. I hope they get caught, do serious jail time and rot in hell!

I work at a Wal-Mart and hearing about this when I arrived at work yesterday made me sick!!! I work at those doors every day and/or night; and sometimes feel as if I live there.
And I can't even fathom losing one of my coworkers in such a way!!!
My fellow coworkers are good people and sometimes they are the ONLY reason I get through a shift, especially during the holiday season.
Some people seem to forget that we who work there are human beings too!!! And the reason we are there is because we have to be!!! Most of us live paycheck to paycheck. Most of us (at my store anyway) do everything we can to please our customers despite the reputation; and a lot of times we still get treated like sh**!!!
Thank you to all my customers who are nice though!!! And there are some of you who are truly great!!!
I hope ALL of those people are charged and pay for what they did!!! Those people are RUTHLESS!!! No materialistic object is worth someone's life!!!

An unfortunate incident? How about tragic, how about the family of that poor individual who have to spend their holiday planning the funeral for their loved on all because a bunch of poorly raised, low-lives murdered this man all in the name of "bargin hunting"! Shame on all of you! Your Karma is doomed for sure!

I don't see what religion has to do with this. How many of these idiots could be called true Christians? Such people were cast out of the temple by Christ. The true religion of Christianity is one of love for our fellow man, and putting others first.
It is a terrible tragedy that this happened. They behaved like savages!

Below cost pricing on high demand items, with a limited number available, they should make sale items more available. I feel sorry for the workers who have to put themselves in harms way. 'Black Friday' is a good name for the madness that these retailers incite.

Christmas no longer has anything to do with religion. so to those who think this is part of Christianity........it is not! I am a Christian and refuse to be part of the greed and selfishness that surrounds Christmas these days.........I will not be part of the mob mentality that stands outside the store and fights for "things" even to the death. I agree in this case it is better to be an atheist than to act like these people. Please don't judge us all by their actions..............This is not God's way!

to the person that is an atheist, religion is not based on greed, hatred and selfishness. The people going into these shops aren't necessarily buying for christmas, althought its probably the case. How many of these people are actually Christians because I don't see how any christian would want to do this. But i do agree they are a bunch of sick people whoever they are and I don't know how the spokesman can describe it as an unfortunate event, It absolutely terrible that so many people can become out of control purely for a sale. Black friday has been a very dark friday this year and should be stopped.

This is horrible, this "black Friday" craze has got to end. every year you here something like this.

This is one sick world we live in where it is more important to get a bargain than it is to have manners.I'm speaking from experience when i say wall mart is a terrible company to work for,and for the spokesperson who stated this was an unfortunate incident i can think of a lot of things to say about this but unfortunate does not come to mind wall mart should pay for this, this mans family should receive compensation from wall mart and everyone who let this happen, wow what a way to start off the holiday season i will pray for his family and i will never go shopping on black friday again.

you know these people have no morals or any self pity if they did they would have acted like kids we teach them to be patience and wait in line so what does all this mean not a damn thing like we say maybe we should practice what we teach America needs to think long and hard about what we do and how we do it i hope it was well worth it if you don't get caught trust and believe me GOD is always watching and he can hear you so if you have guilt turn yourself in and deal with it - much love an respect for the deceased family he is in heaven gates looking down with joy and peace

They have sales with outrageously cheap prices on goods, but only a handful of items will be available at the sale price. So, to get the sale price, people have to show up and try to be first into the store, which causes the stampede effect.
When some kids were trampled to death at a Who concert they realized that general admission ticketing was the cause of the problem and banned GA ticketing.
Wal-Mart, and other stores, should be banned from having limited availability of sale items. If the item pricing would be available all day long, there would be no need for anyone to try to be the first into the store. Even if the store ran out of stock on hand, the price should be honored with "rain tickets" to get the item later at the sale price. This would completely eliminate the cause of the problem.
