An Israeli newspaper has written a story about an owl being injured by Hamas close to the Gaza border.

A story published on The Times of Israel website - with the headline 'Owl hurt by Hamas fire recovering' - chartered the injuries the bird sustained amid the conflict.

The story begins:

''The fighting in Gaza has extracted a grave human toll, but some animals have been affected as well. One was lucky enough to make it to the hospital."

It said the long-eared owl was discovered earlier this month, having been injured by a mortar shell in Kibbutz Nirim.

Gaza officials say the Palestinian death toll since this date has reached 1,361, most of them civilians. Fifty-six Israelis have been killed.
