Young Aimee's a write star
Young writer Aimee Derby has won the annual Young Authors and Artists Competition, organised by the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS)
Eight-year-old Aimee, who goes to Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School, Dunmurry, won first prize in the creative writing category for age 4-8. She was congratulated on her success by Lord Mayor Pat Convery last Tuesday at a ceremony, funded by Commercial Connections and BBC Children in Need, in Belfast City Hall.
This year’s theme, My World, gave deaf children an opportunity to tell their stories by using a range of mediums, including paint, collage, photography and creative writing.
Stacey Kilpatrick, NDCS arts officer UK, said: “The standard of this year’s entries into the Young Authors and Artists competition was quite outstanding, and we’re extremely impressed by the efforts of all the children.”
