Investment hopes as Skeoge link road to go ahead

Friday, April 13, 2007

Confirmation that work to complete Londonderry's Skeoge Link Road will begin in May was today welcomed.

Sinn Fein councillor Tony Hassan said it will result in the whole area being opened up for social housing and business opportunities.

"I have campaigned tirelessly for the completion of the Skeoge Road as I see it as a strategic piece of the jigsaw that will open up the whole area for development.

"This development has been held up time and time again and the news that the work will begin in early May has to be welcomed.

"In terms of a strategic plan for the Greater Shantallow area the Skeoge Road is essential in order to open up the surrounding lands for social housing and business opportunities.

"It will also provide a bypass for a huge amount of traffic from Donegal heading to Belfast and vice versa."

He said traffic currently goes through the Glengalliagh Road past schools, a leisure centre and a shopping complex and the bypass will make this road safer.

"Many developers have been waiting patiently for this road to be completed before committing to the area and now that the date for the completion has been announced, I hope we will see an investment in the area that will bring jobs to an area with a large unemployment record," he said.
