The excitement, and sudden change in blood flow, can trigger a rare condition called transient global amnesia.

Patients lose the ability to retain recent memories. So if you ask after a romantic encounter — ‘was it good for you dear?’ — and the reply comes back ‘was what good?’ that might well be the ultimate compliment rather than a put down.

While there are other triggers for the condition, sex is the most commonly observed. Not much point then of picking that well known lothario Russell Brand for your pub quiz team.
