With a long background of service on Carrickfergus Council, he gained a seat in the Assembly when former Alliance leader Sean Neeson stood down.

Why did you want to become an MLA?

I feel particularly that as an Alliance Party representative since 1977, and someone who has observed the evolution of Northern Ireland, that I have something valuable to contribute.

What are your passions in life?

I am grounded in my local community and I am passionate about helping people who are not being treated fairly.

What issue do you most want to raise as an MLA?

The one area I have pledged myself to tackle is in relation to planning matters and introducing the third-party right of appeal in planning issues.

Is there anything about the system at Stormont which needs changed urgently?

I think the problem is the public's image of the Assembly. Members of this Assembly are extremely hard-working and dedicated. We need to get that across.
