Romance kicks rugby into touch
Spare a thought for my poor husband, who has organised a romantic weekend away to celebrate our wedding anniversary and was all pleased with himself – until he realised it clashed with plans to watch a crucial Six Nations match on TV.
Why this came as a surprise I'm not sure, because I certainly remember how he spent our wedding day, six years ago this Saturday, wondering how the 2008 Ireland v Wales game was going.
To add insult to injury this year, he has now been offered tickets to watch Ireland play Italy live at the Aviva on Saturday.
"I got invited to the match on Saturday (O'Driscoll's last ever home international)," he texted me.
"Pity about O'Driscoll," I replied. "Or pity about missing our last ever wedding anniversary, depending on how you look at it."
Romantic weekend, with a slightly frosty air, here we come.
