Rory McIlroy needs to go down the aisle this time
So it seems congratulations are in order for Rory McIlroy. Again.
Yes, it appears he's got engaged once more, and if his social media presence is anything to go by, then he couldn't be happier. The lucky lady in question is Erica Stoll, a PGA executive from Palm Springs in Florida who bears an uncanny resemblance (in my opinion) to at least two of his last girlfriends.
Now I have to say I was as surprised as anyone to hear this news. After all, it was only a few months ago that we were reporting on his shocking split from fiancee Caroline Wozniacki.
Then, within weeks, he was photographed with two other beauties in quick succession - Nadia Forde, a 26-year-old tanned brunette lingerie model and socialite from Ireland, followed by Sasha Gale, another beautiful twenty-something brunette and part-time model, this time from Lisburn.
For a while he went off-radar, but then, in May, he was spotted with the stunning blonde American bombshell by his side at the Irish Open in County Down and tongues started wagging.
But it was only in June of this year that things started to look official, when the champion golfer 'stepped out' with Erica for the first time on a date in London, holding her hand, no less, in front of the paparazzi.
Now, according to sources, they have known each other for a few years, but nevertheless it still does seem a bit rash to me.
As much as we are all rooting for Rory to find happiness, it will give one a sense of deja vu seeing another woman on his arm flashing another gigantic solitaire while he beams like a kid on Christmas eve.
Okay, granted, everyone makes mistakes, and sure it must be pretty bewildering when you are young, successful, eligible and with the pick of the world's most beautiful women virtually queueing up to meet you.
But remember that Caroline Wozniacki wasn't the first woman that Rory dated then dumped unceremoniously. There's also the small matter of Holly Sweeney - the local girl who also looked (and felt, no doubt) like she was the love of his life, too.
If you remember, that all went belly-up the moment things started to get serious and rumours of wedding bells rang out.
And so it continues. I just hope Rory has finally found the one and that he will settle down once and for all. We all do.
Now is the time for him to pull his socks up and start acting like a responsible adult.
He is old and wise enough by now to differentiate between the real and fake, but also to know his own mind and to stick with it.
Put it this way, if things don't work out and the engagement is called off, then who in their right minds will trust a man who has effectively jilted every serious girlfriend he's ever had? Then again, he is a multi-millionaire!
