Are women not key workers too?
I can't see the downside of allowing parents to choose who takes what share of post-baby leave. The negative response from the Institute of Directors is insulting.
The suggestion that companies fear the loss of 'key workers' for months at a time basically says that it was okay when women (not, by implication, key workers) took a year off, but the country will keel over if men do the same. For every dad on leave there's a mum back in work chaps.
Is that a problem?
It might be for the male-dominated political establishment, but that's a cross the rest of us can just about bear.
