Bob Hoskins was a man of real character...
Just as Bob Hoskins never seemed foolishly young, he also appeared, on-screen at least, undiminished by passing time.
When he was 32, in Dennis Potter's brilliant Pennies from Heaven, he had the air of a man carrying the burdensome complexities of life.
Over time, he racked up mesmerising performances in stand-out films like The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa and, a personal favourite, Neverland, always with a dynamism and a wisdom in his face that age never faded.
He could make you cry, but when he threw back his head to laugh, you felt damn good.
Adios, great man.
