College's astute investors maintain lead

Week seven of the Rensburg Sheppards/Business Telegraph School Share Race came to a close with Newbridge Integrated College top of the class for the fourth successive week.

Their lead has now increased to over £2,300 after Carrickfergus Grammar surged into second spot in a week where their portfolio of investments increased by almost £2,000 in value.

Carrick leapfrog Abbey Christian Brothers, Newry and Royal School, Dungannon, who drop to 11th and fifth respectively, after a difficult week for both schools' portfolios.

Campbell College rise to third place after an impressive rise in value. It was also a good week for St Louis, Kilkeel, up four places to fourth and Belfast High, up eight places to seventh.

The FTSE index of leading companies ended the week 1.5% higher, reflecting investors' increasing appetite for risk.
