How we're still wild about Lou Reed

By Jane Graham

I don't have anything especially new to say about the death of Lou Reed.

I feel the same as many friends, all inspired by an early discovery of the Velvets to lead lives that travel to the beat of a different drum. Cantankerous, curious, creative and damn funny, Lou Reed was a totemic figure for anyone who felt drawn away from the mainstream, who hoped there might be a place for them in the margins. He didn't just make space for those people, he made them feel like they ruled the world. It would just take the world a little time to notice.

Sorely missed doesn't cover it.
