Take heed of Graham's tragic death
How terrible to hear about Graham Dilley, the English cricketer who died last week just days after being diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus.
His brother Brian says that, as a very private person, 52-year-old Dilley hadn't told anyone about symptoms he must have suffered in the weeks leading up to his reluctant visit to a doctor, a visit which only took place when he opened the door to a friend in such an obvious state of weakness and ill-health that he was hurriedly ushered to hospital.
But by then, as Brian put it, "it was too late".
This case will hopefully act as a warning to the many (usually) men who put scary symptoms to the back of their minds for months on end.
Going to the doctor is an act of courage. Be brave.
It could be the difference between playing with your grandkids and just being the man in the photograph.
