That's why they're called top shelf magazines

I'm not a fan of the way the blousy mothers' internet site Mumsnet has transformed itself into a universal mouthpiece for all UK mothers - it certainly doesn't always represent my views.

But I do think WH Smith's refusal to put pretty graphic and entirely artless lads' mags higher on the shelves to avoid the curious, perplexed gaze of primary school children is classless and greedy.

It's hardly an unreasonable request, to simply move the soft porn out of kids' eyeline, which is why Tesco, Asda and numerous other chain stores have agreed to comply, so what point are WH Smith making by insisting on keeping Nuts, Zoo et al at 1.2 metres?

No one is asking them to stop selling the magazines, but having semi-naked faux-lesbians with their tongues out staring at your eight-year-old son as he queues to buy his Doctor Who weekly is just unpleasant and depressing.
