Lindy McDowell: Is there a risk Susan might go off Boyle?
Saturday, 4 July 2009
Singer and internet sensation Susan Boyle was in Belfast this week with the X Factor tour. Onstage she sang the same two songs she sang during the competition.
I’m wondering if there is a full album in Susan.
And while I don’t have the nous and expertise of a Simon Cowell, wouldn’t it have been an idea to have rushed some sort of recording out before now?
Ms Boyle’s most devoted fan base appears to be in America. The Odyssey gig is all very well. But mightn’t they feel they’re missing out in Ohio?
I’d be worried they could even forget about her once the next overnight internet sensation comes along.
Sue who?

Don't think you have the whole picture. All the acts did their winning performances from BGT on tour, did they not? And Susan has TALENT. We in America are certainly not her only fan base. I do think they should put out an album as soon as possible. She could handle doing it and fans are hungry for one.

I have read all the comments, and there hardly seems a thing to add, but I am so perplexed as to why this piece was written that I feel the need to join in vigourous agreement with the cries of disapprobation. I think what sticks in my craw is "I'm wondering if there is a full album in Susan." It sounds so darn lofty and it's so preposterous that it makes one wish to tread on your corns--heavily. I will bet she knows a thousand songs! That's what born singers do!

I can't help but think that some people have missed the point. In declaring that Miss Boyle was on X-Factor and not BGT, was Lindy maybe only expressing her disinterest in the importance that others have placed on this greatly overhyped show?
I get lost when looking at X-Talent and Britain's Got Factor. Never watch I'm A Celebrity, Get Me a House, nor Big Jungle Brother.I totally ignore Youbook and Facetube. And twitter was something that my grannies budgie used to do.
Please folks. Get real!!

Oh My Gosh! Another uninformed writer. Susan is on tour with BGT. I think everyone else knows that but you? The other performers are also doing their very same BGT Semi-final and Final routines - not just Susan. Geeps.

No, you certainly don't have the 'nous and expertise' of Simon Cowell, who clearly knows that you don't 'rush' recordings of quality. What would be the point of putting together a hastily cobbled album, when Susan B. is capable of a top class CD, with songs carefully chosen and beautifully recorded?
I think she will maintain a steady fan base here, perhaps fading from the main stage, but with a steady success ahead of her. Good luck to the lovely lady!

No Lindy, you certainly haven't got Simon Cowell's nous and expertise.

X Factor tour? You don't even know the tour Susan Boyle is on. You also don't know the rules about what the contestants can sing in BRITIANS GOT TALENT. Look them up. Lindy who?

Well, by the time most people have left this page I am sure nobody will have any recollection of who Lindy McDowell is!

I have read that Susan has already started on her album,
How can she go to America when the Britain Got Talent tour dosen't end until tonight? I saw her at Bournemouth on the 26th Jun and she was in excellent form, as for singing the same two songs Hollie Steel sang a repeat of those she sang on TV also the saxaphonist also played what he played on the show. Not to mentio 2 Grand.

Did you miss the recent news post quoting Simon Cowell? He said they finished recording the first track of her album, and it sounds so good that they decided to take more time with making the album, instead of just doing a CD of showtunes. That, in addition to hearing her earlier recording of Cry Me A River should dispell any doubt there is a "full album" in her.

As noted here in other comments, your article is full of inaccuracies. My suggestion is that you take time to research facts before you write articles in the future. I don't think you have the slightest idea of the impact Susan Boyle has had, and at the root of that is her incredible raw talent. Her rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream' supersedes that of Elaine Paige or anybody else who has sung this song in public.

The fact that the author of this blurb, a journalist who is required to check her facts, got the name of the tour incorrect tells me that there was not a lot of brain activity put into this piece. After reading it I'm wondering why she even bothered to write it. Why didn't she just "Twitter" it in to her editor? 140 characters? Sounds about right. You could have tweeted "I have no idea who SuBo is" and been done with it.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just do as another writer did: title your exercise "Read this item because it mentions Susan Boyle" and then write on something about which you have knowledge? It would appear that your essay is based on ladies-room gossip, not research or first-hand experience. Like others, i am willing to wait for a high quality, well-worth-it, album rather than a rushed "some sort of recording."
Now Lindy, please say thank you to Ms. Boyle for the publicity she's given you.

I'm a scot living downunder.
I read a great blog article from a graduate of the prestigious Music/Arts school in the US - Julliard School - (this journalist probably hasn't heard of it )- who says Susan Boyle is the Real Deal - as it relates to singing, and voice qualities.
Any mistake at all it was: She should have outed herself from the Britain's got Talent (not X factor) contract as soon as Simon Cowell offerred to let her off the hook!
Maybe her sense of fairplay got in the way...

I am sick and tired of all this hype over Susan Boyle. She is basically a glorified karaoke singer, and I don't believe she has the stamina or talent to succeed in the music business. She sings the same old two songs at evey appearance, if she shows up at all! I would never pay to see her. I doubt very much that she has the ability to write her own songs and she certainly is a moody character which will hurt her in the music business. She'll get her 15 minutes of fame and fade into obscuity.

Lindy Grow up! Susan has fans throughout the world.

To Lindy, i think you need your facts before writing this garbage. Firstly It's the Britains got Talent tour not the X factor tour and secondly all the acts perform what they performed in the competition.

Lindy McDowell you are so wrong! Susan has a great career ahead of her. I am a big fan of Susan and I don't think that we're going to see another internet sensation like her any time soon.
