A model called Lizzie Miller has created a major stir in America after she was featured in a glossy magazine topless and showing off — horrors! — a bit of fat around her belly.
The story has been featured on the Today television show which is pretty major exposure, when you think of it, for anybody’s spare tyre.
The telling point is that most people who have commented on the picture — and they have included fashion magazine editors — have almost all welcomed this “brave” breakthrough.
Time and again these experts tells us that they know from their own experience that this is exactly what women want to see in fashion and beauty pics.
When they’ve featured such pics before, they insist, their magazines have been sell-outs.
So how come these notoriously profit driven outfits don’t keep doing it?
In the vast majority of glossy magazines, you’ve as much chance of spotting a roll of surplus fat as seeing a polar bear in the Sahara. You may catch the odd feature on well-upholstered Beth Ditto but only as an exotic foil to the emaciated rest of them.
Somebody’s telling porkies here. Although granted, extremely low fat porkies.
