Peaches Geldof

She's been in the headlines not always for the best of reasons. The wild partying. The crazy tattoos.

The allegations - which she always denied - that she'd been doing a bit of 'Antony Worralling' in the shops. Then there was the Las Vegas marriage after a 10-day romance which ended, six months down the line, in divorce.

Peaches Geldof cannot be accused of failure to earn her wild child stripes. But now all that appears to be behind her with a new romance and a baby on the way.

And there is something genuinely moving about the fact that her baby boy is due on the birthday of her late mother, Paula Yates.

She tells Hello! magazine: "It was amazing for me when they told me that, very emotional and touching and just really beautiful. I was so happy. "I feel like it's a little wink from my mum."

Her joy doesn't stop there. Her father is equally delighted with the baby news and with Peaches' boyfriend Thomas Cohen. Cohen, who interestingly looks not unlike a younger, better spruced-up Sir Bob.

Paula Yates died from a drugs overdose when Peaches was just 11 and much media analysis of the girl's career to date has focussed on how she must miss her mother's love. But reading between the lines as she expresses her delight at her father's delight you suspect that Sir Bob's approval means so very much to her too.

She looks gorgeous in the pictures. Blooming with joy. Let's hope it all goes well for the girl.

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
