A teacher who put years on me

Watching recent news, it's easy to think that it's "uneducated" people who are scary here. But there are scarier things going on that sometimes don't get exposed in the newspapers and on the TV news.

Like a story I heard last week that shocked me. Apparently at a leading Ulster grammar school a pupil in a science class referred to something happening hundreds of thousands of years ago, only to be told by the teacher - the science teacher- that she was never to say that again because it was offensive to people who believe the earth is 6,000 years old. She could say "many years ago", but nothing else. In the science class. This is not a joke. This happened recently. In a grammar school.

By the way, when the parents complained, the school defended the teacher's approach. Maybe we're lucky it's only flags they're burning. If this sort of thing carries on, it'll be books next.
