Hillary Clinton has bared all! No, not shocking revelations about her love life or anything salacious. Her face. She’s appeared in public wearing glasses, with no make-up and with her hair pulled back in a scrunchie.
She defended her appearance.
She said she was “relieved to be at the stage I’m at in my life right now, and if others want to worry about it, I let them do the worrying for a change.”
It’s made me consider what the world would be like if no-one adjusted their appearance beyond cutting hair and shaving. A world with no hair dye. No make-up. No gloss.
How long would it take us to get used to that?
Why does a woman over child-bearing age have any need to look “attractive” anyway? Biologically, she’s not seeking a mate, so the animal incentive isn’t there. So why do we keep getting on as if we’re out to copulate at the drop of a make-up bag?
And anyway, what IS “attractive”? Am I really my make-up and hair colour? Is that all that makes me appealing? And if others have a problem with a woman un-made up, isn’t that their problem, not hers? If she can handle it, why can’t they?
