Nuala McKeever: Short-changed over MLAs’ £100k pay panel

We are about to fork out £100,000 for an independent panel to decide whether or not MLAs will get a pay rise.

It seems we must have this because, by law, MLAs can't give themselves a pay rise and anyway we wouldn't like it.

So what? What are we likely to do? Riot? I doubt it. Complain? Definitely. Vote them out at the next election? Eh, whaddayou think ...

But it's value for money apparently — £19,000 on the three part-time panellists, £60,000 for staff to man/|woman the body and the rest on "specialist advice".

Then, after the first year, the cost would drop to £15,000.

After the first year??? How long does it take to make a pay decision? I'll give them specialist advice for nothing: Get the finger out and hurry up!

After 10 years they deserve a wee rise. Just give it and move on.

If they'd like a more considered response, my rates are reasonable ...
