The hills are alive with the sound of ... Zimmers
Two time-travelling shockers this week — one, a woman in a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film who looks as if she’s talking on a mobile phone and the other, the cast of The Sound of Music film, reunited for the first time, on the Oprah Winfrey show.
OK, so the woman in the film was probably talking to herself while holding a hearing aid, but the idea that she’s someone from the future, appearing in 1928 is enough to get the Back to the Future freaks agog online, with over 1.5m hits since the clip went on YouTube, posted by George Clark, from Belfast. I don’t believe it’s time travel in this case, but it’s a fun clip to watch. However, the other clip is downright disturbing! For someone who loved The Sound of Music as a child, the sight of all those beautiful children now old, overweight, grey, balding, divorced and mostly with flopped acting careers, was a real Halloween shocker.
To find, suddenly, that the lovely daughter who sang “I Am Sixteen, Going on Seventeen” is now 67 going on 68 well it’s just too much reality! Round here the hills are alive with the sound of “Oi! Time travel back to Saccharine Switzerland, will yiz, and leave us our dreams!”
