Attacks on democracy must end - Ford
Stormont Executive press release - Department of Justice
Justice Minister David Ford has said that recent attacks have been attempts to undermine the democratic process and must end.
The Minister was speaking following an attempt to kill police officers in Strabane, an attack on an Alliance Party office and bomb hoaxes in Belfast.
David Ford said: "Fortunately no police officers were injured in the attempt to kill them in Strabane but these attacks also put the wider community at risk and are to be strongly condemned.
"We have also seen disruption and fear in the community caused through bomb hoaxes in Dundonald and Belfast. The attempt to petrol bomb the Alliance Party office in East Belfast is a further attack on those who have a democratic mandate given by the people, unlike those behind all these incidents. They need to realise that the community right across Northern Ireland has decided that the future lies in peace and living together, not conflict.
"We must all work to deliver the opportunities offered by the talks process currently chaired by Richard Haass.
“I urge anyone with information to pass it immediately to the police or to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800555111."
