Carrickfergus man fined £6,000 for waste tyre offences
Stormont Executive press release - Department of the Environment
A Carrickfergus man was today fined a total of £6,000 at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court for four waste offences relating to the unauthorised storage of waste tyres.
Mr Samuel Robert Gordon Ferguson, known as Gordon (33), of Craigs Road, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, pleaded guilty to three charges under Article 4(1)(a) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, in relation to unauthorised waste deposit, and one charge of keeping controlled waste under Article 4(1)(b) of the same Order.
He was fined £1,500 for each charge plus £55 costs.
On four occasions during 2012, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency visited a site that Mr Ferguson had been operating as a waste tyre recycling facility, without the necessary licence, on lands adjacent to 50 Waterfall Road in Glenoe, Co. Antrim. On these visits, the officers found in excess of 40,000 tyres being stored illegally.
