Stormont Executive press release - Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment
Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has visited Pretoria to meet with the Director General of Tourism, Ambassador Kingsley Makhubela.
Arlene Foster said: "Around 25,000 South Africans visited Northern Ireland last year so it is an overseas market which we would like to see grow.
“Tourism Ireland operates a year-round programme of PR and marketing activity in South Africa, including engaging with key travel and lifestyle journalists, as well as showcasing Northern Ireland at trade exhibitions here.
"Our iconic scenery and attractions, including the Giants Causeway and Titanic Belfast, together with our world famous golf courses which are home to Major winning champions Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, mean we have so much to offer South African visitors.”
The Minister concluded: "Tourism is of key importance to Northern Ireland’s economic growth and I had a very useful meeting with Ambassador Makhubela. I look forward to continuing to build tourism links between Northern Ireland and South Africa."
Arlene Foster also met with key local journalists and travel industry representatives at an event organised by Tourism Ireland.
