Reissue - Boost for aircraft component manufacturing in Crumlin - Durkan
Stormont Executive press releases - Department of the Environment
New Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan today announced that he is to recommend planning approval for a 3,000 square metre aircraft component manufacturing facility at Langford Lodge, Crumlin.
Langford Lodge is a former RAF airfield and is currently occupied by RLC (UK) Ltd who manufacture aircraft components.
The company currently employ over 250 people on the Langford Lodge site and following the recommendation to approve planning permission they hope to create new engineering posts within the new factory extension.
Mark H. Durkan said: “This approval not only represents potential new jobs but also helps to secure the existing jobs at the site.
“I believe, as my predecessor did, that it is crucial that the planning system delivers decisions swiftly for key industries which provide significant employment in their local areas. In this case a recommendation to approve will be presented to Antrim Borough Council within four months of receipt of the application.
“As Environment Minister I not only want to protect the environment, but also do everything I can to create jobs and develop the economy. I am determined to make decisions swiftly with all planning applications under consideration in my Department and particularly decisions where job opportunities are at stake. However this is only after giving careful consideration to the individual merits of each case.”
DOE Planning consulted with Antrim Borough Council on the 25 July who raised no objections to the proposal.
