Sports Minister congratulates skier on double world cup success

Stormont press release - Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure

Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has praised paralympic skier Kelly Gallagher, who has won gold in the super-combined event and the giant slalom.

These are her first World Cup victories at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup in Panorama, Canada.

The Minister said: “These wins are a great achievement for Kelly. She has already won four medals at the World Skiing Championships last month, and these latest victories are further encouragement as she aims for a Paralympic gold medal.

“What makes these achievements more remarkable is that Kelly only returned to the slopes last month after spending six months recovering from an injury.

“Only last week, Kelly was awarded the Mary Peters Trust Outstanding Sportsperson of 2013 Award in recognition of her outstanding sporting performance. All of these achievements stand Kelly in great stead to achieve her goals and ambitions in Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi this March.

“I wish Kelly all the best for the future.”
