Life's a bed of roses for Mani

By Robert McNeill
Friday, 3 February 2012

Bass player news and, following last week's expose of Duff McKagan's fight against the booze, this week features the financial mysteries of Mani.

Duff was bassist with rapping funksters Guns And Also Roses, and he told of how he used to drink 10 bottles of wine a day - when he was cutting down.

Mani plays the four-stringed thing with another florally orientated band, Stone Roses, and his problem hasn't been drink but money - too much of it.

He tells of going to the cashpoint to get money for bread and milk, and finding someone had put £2m into his account. Could happen to anybody.

The dosh was an advance on a forthcoming tour. Quoth yir Mani: "The whole world's gone crazy.

"I could have fallen over backwards when I saw the balance."

Indeed, such a balance could unbalance anyone.

I bet he bought the best bread and milk when he skipped merrily into the shop.

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
