Belfast man fined £300 for illegally transporting scrap metal

Mr John Dundon (60) of Briar View, Glen Road, Belfast, was fined £300 plus court costs of £22 at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court today for breaches of waste management legislation.
Mr Dundon pleaded guilty to the transporting of controlled waste without being registered to do so.
On 28 February 2012 a routine PSNI stop of a truck on Mill Street Newtownards revealed that the vehicle was carrying scrap metal including car engines, brakes shock absorbers and body panels and scrap metal. The driver identified himself as Mr John Dundon and admitted to transporting controlled waste for profit without being registered to do so.

1. Mr Dundon was charged under Article 38 of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, in relation to transporting controlled waste without the proper licence.
