Alliance leader Naomi has overcome her hardest battle

New Alliance Party leader Naomi Long spent several stressful months under death threats from loyalist extremists at the height of the flag protests, unable even to enter the front room of her home. But she faced an even greater enemy, cancer, after she was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. The disease put the disgraceful loyalist death threats into perspective and added immeasurably to the tremendous strain on Naomi who was then East Belfast MP.

Charity begins at home for our big-hearted footballers

Northern Ireland’s international footballers are stars with the common touch. They may be living every young boy’s dream on the field but off it they show a generosity of spirit that endears them even more to their fervent supporters. The gesture of all 23 players in the squad that played in the Euros to donate their match fees to a cancer charity’s respite home for children suffering from the disease has significantly boosted the home's finances.
