A right Royal reward for world's greatest fans

The staging of the Irish Open golf championship at Royal County Down next year is due reward for Northern Ireland's efforts in revitalising this historic tournament.

The event attracted record crowds when it was staged at Royal Portrush in 2012, helping to boost the image of the province and providing much-needed tourism revenue.

It also proved that Northern Ireland golf fans are among the best in the world and are keen to support events which attract world-leading players.

Royal County Down is consistently ranked among the best courses in the world and should provide a stern test for those taking part.

But best of all it will further enhance Northern Ireland's standing in the game.
