A visit by President Trump would prove quite a coup
According to US Vice President Mike Pence, both he and President Trump want to visit Northern Ireland during the next four years. A lot could happen before either make that journey, but it would enable them to trace the footsteps of several of the US's early Presidents who hailed from Ulster.
Following President Trump's reference to one of them, Andrew Jackson, the seventh President, during a speech in Nashville on Wednesday night, it would be a real coup for Carrickfergus if Trump was to come there to visit Jackson's ancestral home. Hopefully he would leave a less divisive legacy than a previous visitor, King William.
