Already dreaming of Christmas in this washout summer

They certainly cannot wait for Christmas to come around in the Glens of Antrim. Some 4,000 tickets for a festive experience at Glenarm Castle sold out in a day, showing that the eternal pull of Santa is stronger than ever, even in these more cynical times.

The Glenarm festivities don't come cheap, but given the rising cost of supermarket visits to Santa, perhaps it does represent value, and it is more inclusive, giving something for parents as well as the children to enjoy. Perhaps it is a reflection of our washout summer that people are already booking festive cheer to give themselves something to look forward to as the nights begin to close in.

Father would be so proud of his twins' charity appeal 

Editor's Viewpoint There are many demands on our charity from deserving causes but it would be a hard heart which is not moved by the appeal by twins Amy and Liam Murray for donations to the Cancer Focus Christmas appeal. Having lost their father Liam to cancer six years ago, they know the value of the services offered by the organisation. Cancer is expected to hit one in two people in the coming years and there will be many households with empty chairs this Christmas...
