Austin was a true gentleman admired by all who knew him
Journalists seldom win any popularity polls, but Austin Hunter was one of that rare breed, a consummate professional who was universally liked. One colleague described him as a man who was without enemies, and that was after more than 40 years working as a reporter and in public relations.
All the words that anyone would like attached to their character - integrity, ability, principles, collegiate - were used again and again after news of his tragic death emerged. The greatest loss is to his wife, two children, grandchildren and wider family circle, but he will also be sorely missed among colleagues, who admired him as a gentleman in a tough profession.
