Beat the rip-off

Mini-sized toiletries are now big business thanks to the prohibition of carrying any liquids of more than 100ml in hand luggage on flights. And it seems that the manufacturers are really cashing in on the safety concerns.

An investigation by this newspaper showed that anything from hairspray to shower gel costs comparatively more when bought in the smaller size - up to 260% more in one instance.

But there is a way to beat the rip-off. Simply buy empty plastic bottles at the chemists and fill them with your favourite toiletries. That way you still have the convenience of the mini-size, still comply with security measures, and save money.
