Bishop in earnest message to those losing their religion

Bishop Liam McDaid, who has stepped down from his post in the Diocese of Clogher because of ill-health, had an important message for those Catholics who have gone away from the Church because of recent scandals.

By choosing to leave because of the failings of bishops and priests, they are forgetting that it is God's word and their own faith which really make up the Church. The bishops and priests are but messengers.

Losing faith in them should not mean losing one's own faith in Christianity and handing it on to future generations.

As he said, the Church is losing out on a lot of talent, both now and in the future, if the drift away continues unabated.
