Body cameras a useful tool in dealing with domestic abuse

The use of body cameras worn by police officers is a welcome innovation. It will enable them to capture real-time images of incidents and could be especially useful in the prosecution of those responsible for domestic abuse. The cameras could provide valuable evidence even if the victims of this particularly pernicious crime withdraw their complaints.

Only one in three cases of domestic abuse results in prosecution of the perpetrators and it is hoped that one outcome of this new initiative will be to increase this figure.

Those who beat up their spouses or partners deserve to face the full rigour of the law and now, perhaps, they really will.
