Cookstown missionary Maud Kells is a remarkable woman, as her decades of work among the deprived in Africa have amply demonstrated. But she is also the embodiment of the Christianity which is the guiding light in her work.

She went back to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to buy the freedom of three men who she believed were wrongly accused of shooting her more than a year ago. What an incredible demonstration of her faith and her concern for her fellow human beings. This former Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year nearly died in the shooting, but she would not settle for anything less than justice.
