Brave rescue of Labrador gives us paws for thought

Occasionally there is a news story that lifts the heart and makes the world seem a better place. The rescue of Jet, a Labrador which fell over cliffs in the north west badly injuring itself, was such a story.

It involved the Coastguards, the parents of the owner, other people in the area and a local vet who set the dog's broken limbs and repaired other damage.

A dog may be man's best friend, but the feeling is obviously mutual in many cases.

It is wonderful that so many people will risk their own safety to an extent to help a stricken animal. In a world of so much inhumanity it is cheering that caring is not a totally lost virtue.
