Castlereagh Borough Council's last Christmas tree-mendous relief for town
Castlereagh Borough Council will cease to exist early next year, and that cannot be soon enough for the residents of Carryduff, who are fed up with the Scrooge-like behaviour of the council every Christmas. It has refused for eight years to erect a Christmas tree in the central shopping area, instead placing it outside a leisure centre on the outskirts of the town.
In April the area will come under the new Lisburn and Castlereagh super council, and surely it will adopt a more sensible approach, trying to reach accommodation with its own ratepayers.
A local businessman has played Santa this year and put up a tree in the shopping area.
That is the true spirit of Christmas - and Castlereagh councillors should learn from it.
