It is fitting that Queen's University should be holding a four-day conference to celebrate the life and work of Northern Ireland's greatest modern poet, Seamus Heaney.
He was a graduate of the university, a lecturer there, and has a literature centre at Queen's named after him.
He was a man who brought great honour to the university as well as to Northern Ireland, and whose contribution to literature here will last throughout history. He was a literary colossus and it is right that the world should be invited here to celebrate his life and work.
Congratulations to Queen's for issuing that invitation.
