Celtic honeymoon period for Rodgers well and truly over

If Brendan Rodgers didn’t know before, he certainly knows now the size of the task facing him in making Celtic Football Club a power in Europe again. Even the biggest teams can stutter against inferior opposition, but not when the opponents are mere part-timers and from Gibraltar.

Celtic fans are reared on success, at least in Scotland in recent times, but with Rangers now back in the top flight Rodgers knows that the Parkhead outfit will be expected to show vast improvement on recent form, never mind Tuesday’s disastrous loss.

The Carnlough man faces intense scrutiny in the coming weeks and the welcome he received could soon turn to fury.
