Church deserves praise for rescuing art deco classic
Picture this. The former Majestic Cinema on Belfast's Lisburn Road is to be converted into a church hall. Where once people congregated to pay homage to the gods of the silver screen, new audiences will gather to give thanks to an even greater deity.
Windsor Baptist Church is to be congratulated for saving what was once a fine example of an art deco building that gained listed status in its time.
But many of those beautiful buildings have long since fallen to the developers, and modern examples are much more utilitarian in appearance. In this instance some of the magic and majesty of a by-gone era has thankfully been preserved.
