Many councillors don't have a good reputation. Their attendance records can be poor or else they seem to turn up simply to claim their expenses.
Sometimes the public wonders what they really do in council chambers as rates bills continue to rise and services decline.
But Sandra Hunter, chair of Moyle District Council, can claim a legitimate excuse for turning up late for a meeting. She farms alone and had to deliver twin calves before dashing off to oversee council business. It would be difficult to deny she got her priorities right as there probably were few new ideas born in the chamber that evening.
