Cuddle parties a sign of a changing Northern Ireland

Everyone appreciates a hug now and again, be it from a caring spouse or a consoling friend, but will an American craze for cuddle parties really take off in still staid Northern Ireland? Can you really see yourself cuddling up - in an non-intimate way, admittedly -to a complete stranger?

But attitudes change. A generation ago who would have believed that Northern Ireland people would be air-kissing casual acquaintances like the French? Such behaviour then would have more likely earned you a Glasgow kiss than a welcome. So who knows.

After all, a hug between consenting adults is always going to make life seem better - and we can all embrace that.
