Culture Night in city is proof of how far we've come
Culture Night in the centre of Belfast at the weekend shows just how far the city and province has come from the dark days of the Troubles.
To see thousands of people thronged into pedestrianised streets for the night to watch roller ball demonstrations and graffiti artists at work, to try their hand at producing their own newssheet in the Belfast Telegraph or just simply enjoy the multitude of various artistic and culture events happening all around them was to witness a normality that once seemed gone forever. Culture and arts, in many ways, are the pulse of a society. They show how people feel about themselves and where they live and on Friday night the feeling was certainly one of optimism and enjoyment. We need to be very careful that those feelings are never dashed again.
