One of the unchanging aspects of family life is that parents worry about the safety of their children once they start driving, and they want to do all they can to help protect them.

Today we publish a story about a father who has fitted 'black boxes' to his offspring's cars in a bid to ensure that they do not speed.

However, young people need to gain the confidence to take to the roads, and there is a need to balance the rewards with the risks.

For every parent who believes that Mark Murnin is going to extremes by fitting the black boxes, there will be many more tempted to do likewise.
