Darren's new joy

Darren Clarke is one man who knows the joys and sadness of Christmas. And he has drawn on those experiences to throw his weight behind a £85m fundraising drive by the Queen's University Foundation Board for its cancer research and cell biology centre.

Darren's wife Heather died tragically from the disease in 2006 and, although the golfer has his own foundation which works to promote awareness of breast cancer, he is also keen to back home-grown research into potential cancer cures.

There is a new joy in his life this year, his romance with model agency boss Alison Campbell, and everyone will wish him well in both his domestic and professional life in the new year.
