Editor's Viewpoint: A comedy of errors
Theatre-goers in Belfast were treated to outstanding drama recently by Sir Derek Jacobi's stunning performance of King Lear. However, the Theatre of the Absurd belongs to Northern Ireland politics.
One of the most unusual developments has occurred in Belfast City Council. A brave Unionist has described as "absolute farce" a grant of £2,000 for Royal Wedding bunting in a Loyalist area, even though nationalist councillors voiced no objections.
Whatever next? Northern Ireland politics may often be predictable and occasionally very surprising, but they would give even Shakespeare much material for a classic tragi-comedy.
