Editor's Viewpoint: A market leader

The annual Christmas market brings a little bit of cosmopolitan Europe to Belfast. Spanish paella, Polish stew, German beer and Dutch pancakes are just some of the treats in store, sitting alongside continental arts and crafts.

Last year 750,000 people visited the market in the grounds of Belfast City Hall, making it one of the province's major attractions. And as more and more visitors and immigrants come to the city, it will provide a reminder of home for many of them.

For the rest of us it is proof that the season to be merry for retailers is upon us.
