Editor's Viewpoint: Against all odds

Northern Ireland’s soccer team is hoping to emulate local golfers Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy and come out victorious in its vital European championship qualifying match on Friday night.

The two golfers showed tremendous skill and resolve to help Europe defeat the cream of American golf.

But the province’s footballers face an even greater uphill task taking on former world champions Italy.

However, the Northern Ireland team is often at its best when battling great odds.

Maybe this weekend will see another glorious chapter in the sporting history of this little region.
